Most Pest Solutions Are Backwards

They fight pests after the damage starts. Spray. Pick. Hope. Repeat.

What if your plant just... wasn't worth eating?

That's not a metaphor. It's a measurable biological response. And it's what RÜÜT activates.

Your garden should be your escape—not another thing to manage. We built RÜÜT so you spend more time in the flow and less time in the worry. Train your plants once. Let them handle the rest.

WHAT RÜÜT ACTUALLY DOES

Most soil amendments feed your plants. Here's the problem with that: a well-fed plant is still a sitting duck. Nutrition doesn't build defenses.

Chitin does.

RÜÜT delivers plant-available chitin—a naturally-occurring compound that triggers your plant's built-in defense systems. When roots detect chitin, they interpret it as a warning signal. The response is immediate:

  • Cell walls thicken (stems snap instead of bend—try it)
  • Leaves develop waxy cuticle (water beads up, surfaces become less hospitable)
  • Chemical profile shifts (plants become less palatable to feeding insects)

That's Systemic Acquired Resistance. (Yes, it's a real thing. Peer-reviewed. Cornell studied it.)

Most soil amendments don't contain plant-available chitin. They're selling nutrition. You need defense activation.

[The Science Behind It →]

When roots encounter chitin, they interpret it as a warning—the same compound found in insect exoskeletons. The plant "assumes" insects are nearby and pre-activates its immune response. Cornell University research documents this mechanism across multiple plant species. The response is measurable within 10-14 days: increased cell wall lignification, elevated defensive compound production, and improved stress tolerance. This isn't marketing language—it's plant biology.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE

Week 1-2: The snap test. Hold a stem. Before RÜÜT: bends. After: snaps. 10 days.

Week 3-4: Darker leaves. Glossier surface. Less feeding damage visible on treated plants.

Month 2+: Plants that shrug off stress that used to set them back.

Document it with your phone. The change isn't subtle.

THE PROTOCOL

Phone reminder. Every 2 weeks. 2 tablespoons per plant. Water it in.

That's it. One simple rhythm.

Works for houseplants. Vegetables. Cannabis. Ornamentals. If it grows in soil, it responds to chitin.

Important: RÜÜT is a soil amendment, not a complete potting mix. Add it to your existing soil or growing medium. It's concentrated—a little goes a long way.

(Succulents and cacti are the exception. Different biology. You won't see meaningful response.)

THE GUARANTEE

60 days. 5 observable changes. Zero risk.

If you don't see improvement in at least 3 of these areas, full refund:

  1. Stem thickness (snap test)
  2. Leaf color depth
  3. Cuticle gloss (water bead test)
  4. Root vigor
  5. Less feeding damage on treated plants

Here's how it works:

Tag us on social (@ruutsoil) with your before photo when you start. Post your progress at weeks 2, 4, and 6. If your plant doesn't improve—or dies despite following the protocol—we'll refund your purchase or replace the plant.

Before/after photos required. 48-hour refund processing. No interrogation.

We're that confident in the biology. (If we weren't, we'd never offer this.)

THE IMPACT

Here's what a bag of RÜÜT actually represents:

22 pounds of food waste that didn't go to landfill. Not carbon offsets. Not vague sustainability claims. Actual food scraps from your city—transformed through a 24-day biological process into something that makes your plants stronger.

Every ingredient sourced within 20 miles. Every batch traceable. Full circle.

You're not just buying a soil amendment. You're closing a loop that most cities haven't figured out yet.

[Our Process →]

RÜÜT begins with food waste collected from NYC restaurants—material that would otherwise cost the city $200+ per ton to landfill. That material undergoes sequential biological transformation: initial breakdown, chitin-rich processing, and final curing with hundreds of beneficial microbe varieties. What takes most composters 24 hours takes us 24 days. That's the difference between raw material and trained biology. The result is a living soil amendment with concentrated plant-available chitin that no shortcut process can replicate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is this different from regular compost or fertilizer?

Compost and fertilizers feed plants. RÜÜT trains them. The chitin content triggers a defense response that no nutrition-focused product can replicate. Think of it as the difference between feeding someone vitamins versus teaching their immune system to respond to threats.

Will this work for my [specific plant]?

If it grows in soil and processes nutrients through roots—yes. Houseplants, vegetables, cannabis, ornamentals all respond to chitin signaling. The exception: succulents and cacti have different biology and won't show a meaningful response. We're upfront about that.

How long does a bag last?

One 3-lb bag treats approximately 24 medium houseplants for 3 months (at 2 tablespoons per plant, every 2 weeks). For container vegetables, expect 2-3 months depending on plant count.

Is this organic?

RÜÜT is made from 100% organic inputs and qualifies as a soil amendment under AAPFCO guidelines. We're pursuing OMRI certification for 2026.

What's that smell?

Earthy, slightly sweet—like forest floor after rain. It's living biology. The smell dissipates within hours of application.

I've tried other "natural" pest solutions. Why would this work?

Most natural pest solutions still operate on the old model: kill or repel pests after they arrive. RÜÜT works upstream—it changes your plant's biology so pests are less interested in the first place. Different mechanism. Different results.
